After reading all three free chapters, I can’t help but question the judgement–or authenticity–of some other commenters.
The prose in this novel is absolutely abysmal. Narration mostly consists of joyless exposition with little to no authorial voice. Over and over, this book commits the cardinal sin of telling us instead of showing us, leaving nothing to subtext, nothing to a reader’s interpretation. This book is in dire need of an editor, or at the very least a proofreader; what can be read for free is chock full of spelling and grammar mistakes.
Dialogue is stilted and cold, does not seem to reflect the way real people talk to each other. The internal dialogue of the characters during the sex scenes is unsubtle and almost juvenile, making the author seem naive as opposed the characters. The author also seems to quickly run out of words to describe sex as it happens, so his arsenal of porn-y descriptors drag us through hapless sex scenes that appear devoid of any passion (even if we are flatly told how passionate they are).
I won’t deny that some people may find relatable content or even healing content in this novel, but all this is marred in total literary incompetence. I can only recommend that the author use his means and time to attend creative writing workshops and familiarize himself with the medium of the novel before trying to heal the world of its divorce problem with his shoddy, clunky writing.
The language is very beautiful
